The Strange Figure In William Faulkner's A Rose For Emily

As Emily is walking down the street she notices a figure in the middle of the road but can’t tell if it’s a person. The strange figure gets closer and closer. Emily starts to run. She looks back to see if the figure was getting any closer but it disappears out of the thin and crisp October air. She hears the leaves crumbling like as if someone was walking on them, Emily looks around anxiously and yells out “anybody there? there was no answer... Emily cautiously continues walking on her street. As she’s continuing walking emily feels like there's a heavy shadow hanging over her, slowly turning around not knowing what could possibly be around her. It was the strange figure that was chasing her and disappeared. He grabs ahold of Emily’s arm making it hard for her to escape. Emily starts yelling, “HELP… HELP...HELP” repeatingly, “no one’s going to help you sweetheart” says the guy. The guy reaches to his back pocket getting a hold of a vintage handkerchief that was red with very detailed designs, putting it against Emily’s mouth, making her unconscious. The guy picks Emily up as if she was a sack, taking her somewhere she’ll never be found. He lays her up on a old rusty metal table, getting ahold of her arms and legs tieing them up with leather belts. …show more content…
