The Strange Day
Before we got the call, I was at my aunt’s house with my cousins Jawah `and Hasan playing a video game while my aunt and mom were drinking. While we were playing the game, my cousin went downstairs to get a glass of water.
I had an eerie feeling that day. It felt weird with a sense of doom and things just weren’t like they normally would be.
While playing the video games, my aunt called us downstairs while my mom went to the store. She said, in a distraught voice, "I have bad news."
My cousins and I were frightened. We replied, “Well what is it?” As her head went down and she nodded it, she said, “Tay passed.” Her head went right back down.
My cousins and I looked at each other confused, we questioned,

She walked in the living room and stood there like a statue. My mom might have thought something strange as well as me.
“Yes?” my mom shuddered. I started to walk near the kitchen and I started to get a feeling in my stomach. It felt like my stomach was twisting and turning, I knew mom wasn’t going to react well.

As I peeked through the corner of the living room, I saw my mom’s face turn red and she looked nervous. My mom replied, “What is it?” as she sat down and puts her face in her palms.
My aunt looked like she was scared and someone forced her to tell my mom. She said, “Tay got into a car accident and he passed”.
At that point my mom knew exactly who my aunt was talking about and she just burst into tears. When my aunt saw my mom crying she cried with her. I walked upstairs and felt my body weaken up on me. It felt like my legs, arms, head, everything was giving

One thing Jawah loved was his video game. He would never get off it unless my aunt told him to and my cousin Hasan loved his phone. If you ever tried to talk to him, he paid you no mind. He wouldn’t even notice you were talking to him unless you tapped him!
I heard my aunt and mom’s phones dialing so I went downstairs again to check up on them and they settled down. As my aunt was on the left side of the couch and my mom was on the right, they were dialing calls to contact the family and tell them about the news. My mom said in a calm voice, “Enazhe go upstairs please. This is a serious situation right now and I have to make some important calls at the

Greed has caused many problems throughout American history. You can trace American greed from the beginning days when the colonists took land from Native Americans to owners of meatpacking companies forcing their employees to work in horrible conditions in the Progressive Era. One of the most prominent examples of greed in modern day United States is the issue of organ donation. Mahatma Gandhi once said,”There is a sufficiency in the world for man’s need but not for man’s greed.” Organ donation is an issue facing our society today, but luckily it has a solution.…

Being in a biracial family is something I had never expected to happen. Growing up in a stereotypical Asian family, I was always taught to be conservative in our behavior, never be out walking alone, and to be cautious of the poor, Black homeless people who are often hanging around the slummy alleyways of downtown Los Angeles eying random passersby with either a gloomy, defeated look in their eyes or a hard, uncomfortable stare. As a result, I grew up to become a very cautious and reserved family girl. I rarely went out with friends and usually felt content with settling in my warm, serene home. The thought of becoming friends from outside my comfort zone was never something I expected nonetheless becoming family with a whole different race never crossed my mind until the one day…
