The Strain of Gender Inequality on Society “It’s my view that gender is culturally formed, but it’s also a domain of agency or freedom and that it is most important to resist the violence that is imposed by ideal gender norms, especially against those who are gender different, who are nonconforming in their gender presentation.” That was a quote by Judith Butler, Judith is an American philosopher and gender theorist whose work has influenced political philosophy, ethics, and the fields of feminist, and literary theory. In this quote Judith is explaining whether you are female, male, or other we need to be treated equality, but sadly the rest of the world doesn’t feel the same way. It is not just happening in the United States inequality between men and women is happening all over the world. For example; women trying to gain citizenship, debating whether or not to let women join frontline combat, a man earning more money for the same occupation as a women, not to mention in some parts of the world not everyone has access to education …show more content…
When you are a baby your parents take you home and depending on your gender the baby room is painted either blue or pink. Ever since we were babies we have been assigned a certain role depending on our gender. Blue has always been a sign for a boy and pink represents a girl. Toys are another item that tell us about traditional gender roles, if you are a girl you probably played with Barbie dolls, you could dress them up, and fix their hair. Girls run around pretending to be princess and fairies, and painting their nails. Boys play with action figures, cars and trucks. There are many items like, clothing style, how we act, eat, and talk that are specific to our gender roles. With all of these things I think they do sometimes interfere with how we are supposed to act based on our gender. But sometimes girls just can’t be dainty all the time, and sometimes men just have to
