I will start out with what it means to be a man. In today’s society being a man has its advantages and disadvantages. According to Lorber men in today’s society would be put in the group A category (Lorber). They make higher wages in certain professions; statistically they get more opportunities than women normally do. They are stereotypically perceived as being tough and emotionally detached from everyday things. Being so detached from their emotions, males will normally have a tough time dealing with things that they should be able to deal with easily. They should also be protective of themselves, family, and possessions. Another thing that comes along with being a man is that your relationships with other men are somewhat complicated in ways that female relationships normally are not. Normally there are certain borders you cannot cross when dealing with other men. Such as saying something that would be perceived as “gay” by some companions.
Women on the other hand have different expectations and stereotypes placed on them by our society. According to Lorber you would probably place women in the Not-A category (Lorber). The Not-A group is put in a disadvantage that the A group does not face and even though I am not a women I’m assuming that it is not easy to be at that disadvantage. Women normally are seen as more sensitive than men and are more in touch with their feelings then men are. Women also don’t have as strict boundaries in their relationships with other women as men do. They can be a little more open with each other then most men can
