Yes, I am familiar with the story of the Wiley College debate team, a small Black college in Marshall Texas that, the story is based on a Negro institution going and debating out with white’s institutions. Tolson’s debaters became so well known that they were invited to participate in the first interracial debate ever permitted. The story was not published until recently because of the concern regarding the situation and at a time when blacks endured the daily indignity of discrimination, and racial violence that simmered just beneath the surface.
