Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton They say Bethany Hamilton has saltwater coursing through her veins. It does not take a genius to make that inference. Born on the eighth of February, 1990, Bethany Hamilton’s story is known amongst people globally. What started as an ordinary morning for the thirteen year old “soul surfer” as she calls it, escalated to one of the most known shark attacks. It was a morning like any other when Bethany was woken up by her mother Cheri when questioned if she wanted to go surfing. October 31st was a bright and sunny morning with promising waves to ride at the beach. Being a holiday, the only thing Bethany had to worry about was her best friend Alana Blanchard stealing her waves. No school and no stress was the vibe on that Halloween morning. She was extremely thirsty and what was left of her arm was covered up. Many reporters were itching to bust down her hospital door just to get a picture or statement from the shark attack victim. After a few long, restless, nights the Hamilton family were released from the hospital to start a new chapter of their lives. Learning how to do daily life skills would be challenging, but not impossible. However it was very frustrating Bethany admits. It was hard to get some perspective on the simple question of “why”. Why had Bethany been attacked instead of someone else? Why did she need to go through this awful time when she was nothing but good? Why did God choose me and what does He have in mind for me? However, you can’t change the past and you can’t go back. This was her new life. Instead of sulking in a corner, Bethany wrapped her head around her missing limb and focussed on using this to her advantage. She wanted to make a difference and impact other victims’
