Odysseus and his son had been sailing toward Mount Olympus for ten days when it began to storm. Poseidon had planned this storm to lead them out of their way and towards Aeaea. Circe had been told to give the two food with poison in it when they arrived. If she gave them her potion as a liquid, Odysseus would suspect something and would not drink it. This poison was supposed to stall them. It had the power to keep them asleep for one year, so Poseidon could give Helios time to build up an army of cattle.
“Father, are we headed in the right direction?” said Telemachus.
“No, we are headed toward Aeaea, the island where Circe lives,” replied Odysseus.
“Who is that?” questioned Telemachus.
“She is a Sorceress. You must not drink anything she gives you; she gave my crew a potion …show more content…
Father and son arrived at Calypso’s island after being with Circe for a month. They were both exhausted and Telemachus’ leg was in very bad shape. Calypso, like Odysseus, was not allowed to help his leg heal. Poseidon gave her orders not to help them and to try and hurt them more. She was also told to keep them distracted for a year, but she planned on keeping them more than a year because she was in love with Odysseus. She never wanted him to leave again.
As the men arrived, Calypso met them on the beach. Once she saw Telemachus she was love-struck. She knew Odysseus would avoid her, but this man! She could seduce him. He would not avoid her like Odysseus.
Calypso was the first thing Telemachus was. He thought to himself, “Wow, she is a beautiful woman.” He knew he should stay away from him like his father told him too, but he just couldn’t.
Odysseus, realizing that he would be here a while, decided to wait for Telemachus to come back to reality. He had to wait for his son to understand that they had to get to Mount Olympus soon so they could be home
