In life, when faced with adversity, some fail, while others prevail. In “The Story of My Life”, by Helen Keller and “American Sniper”, by Chris Kyle, both of the main characters face many difficulties and hardships. Helen Keller’s autobiography traces the first twenty-two years of her life, highlighting the illness that left her deaf and blind at the age of eighteen months. Helen’s family hires a teacher to help her learn everything from communicating to arithmetic in which she faces many trials and tribulations. Helen is able to prevail over her circumstances. One time while at the ocean for the first time she recalls, “No sooner had I been helped into my bathing suit than I sprang out upon the warm sand and without thought of fear plunged into the cool water” (TSML 35). This shows that even though Helen was blind, she stills had the confidence to jump into something she had never jumped into before. Chris Kyle was much the same. He always thought of himself as the best or better than most snipers. In one watch during a batter there was an enemy extremely far away and unshootable by most, but not to Chris. “Anything someone tells me I can’t do something, it gets me thinking I can do it.
