Life Stories of Steve Jobs How do people know what path to take, what choices to make, and what career to pursue in their life. High school and college, for those that go, is meant to give guidance in what direction to go in life. Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of Apple and Pixar, knows first-hand that this isn’t always the case however. In a commencement speech he gave to the graduating class of Stanford in 2005, Jobs constructed a brilliant collection of three stories that formed a cohesive mantra: try new things until you find what you love then pursue that passion, no matter what happens. This is an important lesson for anyone, but especially for the audience because they are about to enter the real world where life isn’t always fair. Each person has their highs and lows in life. Jobs tries to convey that it is a part of life and that events happen for a reason (Zetlin, Mirda). The second story he tells begins with him at the top. After he had turned a company he started with a friend into a multi-billion dollar business (“Text of Steve Jobs ' Commencement Address (2005)”). Shortly after, Jobs’ career seems to take a turn for the worst. He is fired from his own company, so he decides to start to more, NeXT and Pixar, where he meets his wife (“Text of Steve Jobs ' Commencement Address (2005)”). Also the companies do really well themselves. NeXT is bought by Apple and Pixar becomes one of the most famous movie companies (“Text of Steve Jobs ' Commencement Address (2005)”). As 20 something year old graduates, nearly everyone there has most of their life yet to live. Jobs doesn’t want them to waste their potential. In the final story he tells of his recent, closest, call with death. He was diagnosed with cancer that was thought to be incurable; luckily the cancer was, rare, surgically removable tumor (“Text of Steve Jobs ' Commencement Address (2005)”). Also he gave two quotes in the third story that he tried to live by. The first one was stated that one day everyone; the second, was from a now cancelled catalog that in their last issue signed off with the message, saying to alway seek more out of life and to try to define the impossible (“Text of Steve Jobs ' Commencement Address (2005)”). In the third lesson Jobs tries to pass on to the audience he uses logos in his reasoning rather than ethos this time. This gives his argument more support by also using logic, not just the merit of how successful these ideals have made
