Angel and her little brother live with their grandma in a farmhouse in Vermont. Their mom abandoned them and their father is in jail. Grandma is old and cannot take care of the children. In this dark world, a stranger comes on clear nights and teaches Angel about constellations, stars, and planets. Through these lessons, Angel learns that the stars are made from the same stuff as her and she realizes that there is hope for her. This story “helps young adults explore socially significant themes and events, empathize with others, and examine complex human interactions” and thus, is realistic fiction (p.126).
