Classmate Conversation Reflection

The classmate conversation with Urji was started by casually walking together to Coffman after class. It was somewhat vague and a little tense to begin with, but after a few minutes of getting to know each other, time seemed to fly as I began to know who the real Urji was. For almost an hour, we sat at a table in the Marketplace in Coffman; I really enjoyed the conversation because it brought good insight from someone who I did not know very well.
One story that really resonated with me was Urji’s story about being the best runner in his high school. Urji was very passionate about running and would run after practice, finish his laps, and keep running with those who had not finished their laps. Some of the other runners would tell him that

I needed a reminder to keep trying my best this year and this conversation made me remember that. It reminded me how much I value being here receiving an education. This connects to leadership because in order to be a good leader, one must be able to understand others around them. Understanding other perspectives and people can help reduce conflicts or can help resolve a conflict more efficiently. Most of the time, conflicts occur because someone is misunderstood or a person has not experienced a certain experience in the same way. This assignment is used for the leadership class most likely because it helps one seek someone out and be able to ask the correct questions to understand the other person. Some of the questions that were engaging were the open ended questions, since they made him come up with a response that he had to dig for. These questions help individualize conversations specific to that person. These types of questions are also used by nurses to get to know their patients better. These conversations and questions can get some people out of their comfort zones, but doing also helps a person

For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.…

Over the semester we have read a lot of short stories, the four that stuck out to me the most were Saboteur, Where have you been, Where are you going?, and Barbi- Q. Each story is has its own reflection like what I learned about myself, what I learned about other people, and what I learned about the world. What I learned about myself in Saboteur was not to let people get under my skin like Mr. Chiu let the cops under his skin when they threw the hot soup at him. You have to be the better person and not try and make a point because in the end you may not even get your point across just because the other people might be better than you.…

The story I picked is “what you pawn, I will redeem” by Sherman Alexie. I feel like this story related to me and past circumstances that have happened in my life. The story helps me to remember the general choices that I had to make in life. The hard choices that confronted me when growing up. The story brings two distinct ways, the adult way that surfaces with obligation and development and the youthful side that showcases the different adventures the main character has.…

There was never a dull moment due to the wide range of diversity, talent, and personalities of students. I made amazing lifelong friends that appreciated my presence, ideas, and personality. The entire student body participated in deep discussions over a wide range of topics including beliefs, injustice, and conflicts in our society. Everyone treated other’s contributions with respect and consideration of their ideas and views. Each discussion and activity opened my eyes to recognize meaningful things that society normally overlooked.…

In the short story Happing Endings, Margaret Atwood conveys several unique ways of alternating the stories theme. For instance, in scenario A the couple John and Mary live a happy life with no conflict nor problems and dithery live and die happily. While in scenario B-F Atwood gives us scenarios of different conflicts and tragedies that's not surprisingly happen in peoples everyday life, but you still end up with the same outcome as scenario A. This short story gave me mixed emotions about, see what is the authors purpose of writing this piece, and also personal connections it might have towards me. I actually like the story Happy Endings but somewhat want to disagree but can’t with Atwood’s theory of how different scenarios of relationships will end.…

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals? I was playing soccer with my friends in my neighborhood just a normal day everything looked as usual. But while I was playing soccer I was hearing a noise, not knowing if I am the only one who is hearing I felt deluded for a moment and stopped playing soccer and headed to the direction where the noise was coming from.…

My father once told me a story based on how education is very important to our family generation. He taught me that you should be grateful that you have the special opportunity of living the American dream. As a first generation, this inspired me to focus on my own future and my education for my family. Otherwise It's important to tell stories to anyone that motivated us with great life advices.…

The course was designed to teach me how to be a critical thinker, along with how to research and communicate effectively. During the course I had to pick a topic, complete assignments by the due dates, complete peer reviews, compose discussion posts, and complete research on my topic. Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…

Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
