Cheche has tried to many ways to get rid of JuanCheche wanting to modernize the cigar factory to anyone nowadays would seem like a great idea; but for people back in the late 20’s that was more of a taboo situation to turn to machinery. Ofelia did not want to hear Cheche out though because of how shady he seems. He wants more and more shares of the factory but forgets he is not the main Patriarch of the factory. Palomo made a great point though when he said, “Machines are stealing our jobs.” The machines would do that exact thing too. Modernizing the cigar factory and investing in machines may have been his way to get rid of Juan as well. Although the workers would run the machines but theoretically speaking that would eliminate Juan Julian’s job since the sounds of the machines would over power his speaking. Cheche also did not like the fact that his wages and the other worker wages were used to pay for a lector. I felt he was nonchalantly trying to push the workers more to get rid of
