Today, individuals have yet to realize the large impact mental, physical, and sexual health can have on their overall quality of life. I have witnessed this first hand, as my father suffered from depression for most of my teenage years. I saw him neglect to confront his issue, eventually causing him to lose all motivation to keep up with his physical health as well. Through this, I learned that a lot of individuals are not completely comfortable admitting they are struggling with their mental health, which I believe is due to the stigma society has created regarding mental health conditions. Eating healthier allowed me to be more energized and learning how to manage my stress helped me from becoming overwhelmed. Looking back at my semester, I discovered that I have strong listening skills that enable me to show others I genuinely care. Being a peer leader has allowed me to work on my public speaking skills and made me more comfortable talking in front of crowds. However, I still have areas that need strengthening regarding public speaking. I struggle with saying words such as “um” and “like,” and being a peer leader helped me realize just how often I used these words as I presented. I am going to be taking advantage of the writing center more frequently, helping to strengthen my writing skills for the future. This semester I procrastinated often, leading me to become severely stressed out. Next year I will set aside time daily to engage in physical activity, as a way to stay healthy but also help manage my stress in a healthy approach. Along with this, I am interested in visiting a registered dietician in hopes of maintaining healthy eating habits. I also believe it would be wise to utilize one or more of my counseling sessions, providing me with new techniques to handle my stress in a positive
