This doesn't really give the reason for parents wanting their sons to be more smart.…

In the recent issue of Officer Peter Liang, many Asian elders have argued about the discrimination of the court verdict. The elders compared Peter Liang with other white officers who did not get charged for second degree manslaughter crime on an African American citizen. The elders describe the guilty verdict for Peter Liang as “making an ethnic minority American a scapegoat to satisfy the political thirst of a few and to pay for the police brutality that has troubled the American society for a long time” (Sun Yuanfan). However, the elder has forgotten to mention that Gurley, the unfortunate victim, is also a part of a minority under the privilege of whiteness. Ultimately, the controversy has lead to the dispute between the Black Lives Matter…

Regardless of your standing in society, people struggle with who they are. Movies, music, and media only make things harder for these individuals, typically because of stereotypes. I will provide several instances where stereotypes are expressed in unneeded areas at an early age. One major instance that I feel is completely unnecessary is the “Song of the Roustabouts” from Dumbo. This portion of the movie depicts black figures “slaving” by hammering tent stakes during a storm at night.…

David Denby paints us a picture of how Hollywood portrays high school life in movies. The very first movie of the Bring It On series, titled Bring It On, fits his description almost perfectly. The main characters in this movie are high schoolers that are very passionate about cheerleading. It sounds like an innocent movie that everyone can watch, but this movie contains a lot of adult humor. Denby described Hollywood’s portrayal of high school as a “never ending nightmare” (p. 366).…
