The episode of Black Mirror that we watched in class was an excellent piece of television. Beneath its dystopian and technological aesthetic, there lies a chilling message of very real relevance. That message is of course will become this sheep like society, or even more scary, have we already? The main protagonist, Bing, is often annoyed by frequent advertisements that infilitrate his everyday life. By skipping these ads, Bing is penalized by losing “merits,” the form of currency among the characters. Whether or not people realize it, we pay for the ability to skip advertisements much like Bing. Commonly used streaming services such as Hulu, Spotify, and You Tube Red to name a few, have required a paid subscription to skip ads for years
