Charles B. Rangel once said, "The promise of the American Dream requires that we are all provided an equal opportunity to participate in and contribute to our nation." The statue of the liberty poem, "New Colossus" was created by Emma Lazarus in 1883. It reads how freedom in America is expressed by the Statue of Liberty; the mother of exiles will open her arms to those who have nowhere else to be truly free. The ways to balance the values of freedom expressed in the sonnet and immigration in our country are granting amnesty to illegal immigrants, allowing more wanting individuals to come to America, and not building a wall along the Mexican border.

To them, the Liberty Torch did not represent "enlightenment", but "welcome". The Statue of Liberty emerged as the Mother of those craving to be free, and a symbol of hope to immigrants to come.

It a human right to travel and migrate, yet here we are setting up political borders, and discussing border walls to keep out fellow humans.
