Between 1886 and 1924, 14 million immigrants, ancestors to some of today 's American, entered the United States through New York. To them, the Liberty Torch did not represent "enlightenment", but "welcome". The Statue of Liberty emerged as the Mother of those craving to be free, and a symbol of hope to immigrants to come.

The government states the immigration in the United States is based on the following principles: the unification of families, admitting immigrants with skills that are valuable to the American economy, protecting refugees, and promoting diversity. Yet, we have a limit on how many are granted entrance each year. It a human right to travel and migrate, yet here we are setting up political borders, and discussing border walls to keep out fellow humans. There needs to be a limit, not on the number of people, but on the types of people. The limit needs to be increased to around 750,000 to allow the system to be more
