The Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh Essays
Vincent Van Gogh was born in 1853 in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands. He was known for his style and how it expressed beauty, color, and much emotion. He battled with intense mental illness, which is seen within many of his works. Van Gogh eventually seeked treatment for his disease at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in France, where he created The Starry Night.
At a quick, first glance at this painting, it is essentially a dark hued landscape with big, bright swirling sky, a bright moon, some type of large tree, a small white church, mountains, and a town in the foreground; however, it is much more than that. Once dissected, this painting is more than just a famous, whimsical sky – it is pure emotion and escape.
When viewing this in person from the side, the paint is slightly three-dimensional because it protrudes due to the thickness of the paint. Because it’s so thick, the use of line is very apparent,…
