The Stanley Cup: The Origin Of Hockey

Origins can sometimes be a difficult thing to trace and understand. That includes the sport hockey. Hockey is a fast paced game played on ice that is very complex and simple at the same time, but the roots of the game are not as precise as other sports' roots. The exact start of hockey is hard to tell because it was not recorded since the beginning and making of the game, but there are also beginnings in hockey that are set in stone such as the first organized hockey game, the first hockey league, and the donation of the Stanley Cup. The origins of hockey or for any sport are hard to trace or exactly say where and when they started due to unrecorded experiences that are now just memories or thoughts ("The Birthplace or Origin of Hockey"). The Cup was and is awarded to the champion of the championship playoffs at the end of the hockey season. The first ever team to be awarded the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association in 1893. The Stanley Cup has a band or ring for every team that has won the Cup and every player that was on that team has their name engraved in it ("The Stanley Cup".) This makes the Cup very unusual because most trophies are just given to teams to keep and maybe get the teams name engraved in it. The older bands are sent to Lord Stanley's Vault in the hockey Hall of fame in the Ontario Province.
