The Stalker Of Prey: Cats Vs. Cats

Improved Essays
Second, Your cat, being the solitary stalker of prey, will naturally be built differently than your dog, the pack hunter. Cats, because of their instinct desire to stalk quietly, pouncing once close, tend to be built more lithely, with lean muscles meant for leaping and snatching at a surprised foe. Their build, then, is built for stealth and agility, sacrificing the brute force and athletic endurance of your other household hunter. Your dog, on the other hand, has a build far less concerned with stealth and agility. In the wild, your dog would have relied on his ability to outrun his prey over long periods of time, rather than the sneaking surprise of your cat, to catch his next meal. Generations of this way of hunting has made your dog into

I’ve discovered the Warrior Cats series recently, and I already love them. Warrior Cats is a fictional book series written by the British authors Kate Carry, Vicky Holmes, Tui Sutherland and Cherith Baldry. They came up with a single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing us, their readers, by having books from the same series listed under diferente author names. The series takes place at a fictional forest, where four clans of wild cats fight for their survival.…

It has been suggested that predator avoidance in primates is an important adaptation for survival. Predation of small bodied primates is easy if those primates are not adapted too detecting and avoiding predators. This paper will determine whether the predator avoidance theory is a sound explanation for the unique traits seen in species like tarsiers and galagos. Small body size, nocturnally and leaping locomotion have been hypothesized as successful predator avoidance strategies. A paper published on a Miocene tarsier will provide evidence of the retained symplesiomorphy of small body size, and how it is advantageous to predator avoidance (Zijlstra et al 2013).…

Discussion The current study aimed to address whether countershaded prey are better protected from visually hunting predators compared to non-countershaded prey. The study also aimed to resolve these major differences in results from these previous research (Edmunds & Dewhist, 1994; Speed et al., 2005) on the effectiveness of countershading. The results from the current study partly addressed the aims indicating that countershaded prey had a better survival rate than non-background matched prey. The hypothesis that countershaded prey would be eaten less frequently than dark, light, or reverse countershaded prey was not supported. However, aspects of the functions of countershading was supported via the results and are discussed separately…

Often people assume that two species of animals are either predator or prey and that if they are enemies then they can’t help each other, however this is not always true, sometimes individuals from different species of animals can help each other and even bond. An example of such would be a dog that just had puppies might take care of a litter of kittens. Its maternal love would spread even to the kittens and she would become their loving and makeshift mother. The first passage “Animal Roles and Relationships” covers the idea of interspecies relationships and individuals relationships. An example listed in the passage is the relationship between hermit crabs and sea anemones.…

Since the beginning of time, all different types of species have developed into unique survivalist. Natural selection has allowed many species to use their survival instincts against their predators, or allowed them to become more skillful (since they’re preys to some other animal). Let’s use humans for example; we are part of the endotherm family, naturally we generate heat within our bodies, and we eliminate heat, when we pant or sweat. This skill helps us to run longer distances, when our prey can’t. Natural selection works for all sorts of species.…

Cats and dogs are both hunters but they each have their own way of accomplishing it. Cats like to creep up on their prey and surprise them; they use their quick speed and stealth to their advantage. Dogs will typically chase down their prey because they are not as quick on their feet as cats are but they do have better endurance. Their flight or fight responses are also very different; cats will typically flee the situation by climbing or jumping and dogs will usually fight back because they are more earthbound and cannot flee was well as the cat. The way cats and dogs interact with things and people are also diverse.…
