I am currently a pre-five nursery officer in a local authority nursey class. I carried out my practice placement in a local primary school as I was keen to observe how different establishments encourage parents and families to contribute to life of the centre. In my establishment the care and education of the children is our main aim, as I recognise that parents and carers are the primary educators of their children (Reed, M and Walker, R, 2015). It is important that they are given the opportunity to be involved in the life of the centre. Staff roles within my placement
Within my practice placement the structure of the staff team is very apparent and is available for all parents to view in the foyer of the school. The management structure and their roles are as follows. The school head teacher is the leader of a school and responsible for the education of all pupils and the management of staff. The deputy head teacher is responsible for working with and supporting the head teacher. In addition, he is also responsible for the upper school and is the schools named person as set out in the Children and Young People Scotland Act, 2014 (Scottish Government, 2014). The principal teacher is responsible for the lower school. Her main responsibility is pupil support. She is continually working in collaboration with other professionals; such as speech and language therapists, health visitors and psychologists. This ensures that each child in the school is reaching their full potential as set out in Getting it Right for Every Child (Scottish Government, 2012).
