For this project, I interviewed Chris Savino, who graduated in 2010 and now works as a Senior Financial Analyst for Major League Soccer, in the sports industry. At Saint Joseph’s University, Savino was an accounting and finance double major with a passion for soccer. Him and a friend even started the Men’s Club Soccer team. Late into his senior year, Savino and a friend started a website, Business of Soccer, with the intent to blog about soccer; however, they soon realized it had transformed into a resource for the sport’s industry and less so a blog. After graduating, he went to work for PwC as a Senior Associate providing auditing and consulting services, while still writing for Business of Soccer along with Goal.com. Soon enough, the website was getting recognition and the creators of Business of Soccer were attending conferences and networking with people from the same industry that he dreamed of working in. Then by January of 2014, Savino had landed and started his dream job working for Major League Soccer as a Senior Financial Analyst.
Selection Justification
Last year, during the spring semester, I attended a Phillies Business Intelligence panel discussion. There, I discovered an appreciation for how versatile my field is and how many different places Business Intelligence and Analytics can be applied in addition to a newfound interest in working for a major-league team.
