The spiritual Gift of tongues
I believe it is imperative to mention that there are two specific types of tongues apparent within the scriptures. Although they are identical in manifestation, delivery and source it is evident that they require investigation and explanation in their own right, as they are equally divine in nature, and importance not only spiritual growth of the individual, but to the church and the kingdom of God and all that that encompasses. talcs

A couple weeks ago, Holy Ghost had its annual service trip to the Dominican Republic. I had heard about the trip from Dr. O’Connor when I did the summer enrichment program in 6th grade. I looked forward to going on the trip when I got to Ghost, and I got the chance this summer. At first I was really nervous, but by the second day there I realized how special the trip truly is. I got to give my Spanish a jog, I got to meet a ton of new people, and I had my eyes opened to a new way of living.…

The universal term of America being referred to as a “melting pot” has been bestowed upon the country, giving many people a new opportunity to assimilate towards the mainstream American society and in return, will receive equal treatment. In regards to the diversity of America, we appreciate when someone can “speak in tongues” (Smith 252). Zadie Smith, author of “Speaking in Tongues,” writes about the benefits of being able to talk in many different tongues to speak for the entirety of people, even if they are not of the same kind of people. On the other hand, however, Kenji Yoshino, author of “Covering:…

Most school around the country have a week once a school year where people can participate in certain activities to show off their school spirit. Do schools really need it though. The read of the article “A Pentecostal Way of Doing Theology: Method and Manner”, by Archer was a lot to digest. The dilemma is to be able to resurrect and define Pentecostalism Pentecostal. I haven’t given this concept much thought recently, but I’ve known this for a while. I was brought into the Pentecostal “mode” in 1975 to a church that was practicing the true traditional Pentecostal theological ways. Since then, I haven’t been able to find a comparable church proclaiming or practicing these beliefs.…

Throughout my years as a believer I have been a member of and visited some interesting churches to say the least. I have visited some churches that have an old fashion Baptist church feel to it. I have visited churches that are more modern in their presentation. And again, I have visited churches that have a very charismatic feel to it. I currently reside at a church that leans toward the cessationist model of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.…

Speaking in Tongues is a documentary that shows how the involvement of people with other backgrounds and languages actually works. It is very complicated for them to be involved in different environments and understand everything they are required to do. The character I found the most interesting was Jason. He is a 5th grader Mexican-American whose speaks English and Spanish. Due to the interaction in school, his Spanish is getting weaker and his English is getting stronger.…

Spiritual Gifts and Unity in Christ from 1st Corinthians 12: 1-31 Paul’s words in his letter to the Corinthian church, lays an emphasis on the virtue and need for unity within these community of believers as it relates to the diverse operations of spiritual gifts (I Corinthians 12:1-31). This is because spiritual gifts and unity are interconnected and vital to their church experience and Christian life. According to him, our effectiveness as the church of Jesus Christ lies in our willingness to work together even as we recognise the different abilities bestowed on us by the Holy Spirit. In this section of the letter the apostle advocates for a more communal spirituality than an individualistic approach to living out one’s faith experience. He reiterates the fact that the Corinthians church was one body possessing different members (1 Corinthians 12: 20-27).…

Introduction into this book and videos covers how we need to set long term goals, but before doing so we need to ask ourselves some questions. Before we can set those goals we should seek to know Christ. This can be done by reading the four gospels and seeing what Jesus did, what we can learn from him, and how does it relate to us? Jesus’ last commandment was to go and make disciples, and while principles never change, our methods have to change in order to reach the current generation, and each beyond. As we get into the chapters we learn that men are God’s method and while they may seem unlearned or ignorant by man’s standards, God uses those willing to learn and raises them into leadership.…

The voices we use every day may not seem to be of importance when thinking about an individual’s identity, however the human voice is something worth paying attention to. Some people have different voices that they use for different environments, while others have one main voice they use to communicate with people in their surroundings. In “Speaking in Tongues”, Zadie Smith explains the up and downsides of speaking with more than one voice, as it can either provide flexibility for things in life or come off as unauthentic for the speaker. Having many different voices can be a result of imitating languages from other cultures through memes, as people will tend to pick up on all different kinds of accents and languages and put them to their…
