The Holy Spirit: The Characteristics Of The Holy Spirit

Superior Essays
The Holy Spirit is a very unique and amazing person; he is also very complex. The person of the Holy Spirit has many characteristics. Along with all hi characteristics, his emotions are also a huge part of what make up the Holy Spirit. One of the places in the bible you can see the Holy Spirit’s emotions come out is seen in Romans 15:30. This verse particularly shows the Holy Spirit’s love; it goes on to say, “Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me” (Romans 15:30 NIV). The person of the Holy Spirit also speaks to us a lot of the time. This concept is proved in scripture many times. You can see a great example in verse Acts 10:19, where the Holy Spirit begins speaking to Peter. Wilson puts it. I want to go more in depth about how the Spirit speaks. Point blank He speaks, and he does so to tell the mind of Jesus to us in the Kingdom. Many times the Holy Spirit speaks through our own individual gifts we have received. The Spirit speaks to and through all Christian believers. Well demonstrated in verse “Acts 2:16-21, 4:31, and 19:6”, to name a few. Not only does the Holy Spirit speak to all believers, but he also speaks with specificity. He uses specificity to help give is insight regarding the future (Acts 11:27-28 NIV), he also uses specificity to give us warnings (Acts 20:23 NIV) and guidance (Acts 13:1-3 NIV). Overall, the Holy Spirit is very involved in all aspects of the Earth. He helps us by giving us guidance, the church by giving guidance to the leaders and speaking through people, and the Earth by being the person of God. Author Dave Wheeler states, “Not enough can be said about the supreme importance of the Holy Spirit on convincing and convicting the lost person of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Unless this work occurs, a nonbeliever does not, cannot experience salvation” (p. 152) Thus the Holy Spirit convicts and convinces sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment; and to draw sinners to Christ. The evangelist’s role is to simply tell of how to be…

In Robert E. Shore-Goss’ Queering Christianity: Find a Place at the Table for LGBTQI Christians, the Holy Spirit is talked about in the most loving way I have ever seen. To my surprise, I agreed with a lot of the theology. Before coming to Brite, I did not know there was such a thing as “Queer Theology.” Shore-Goss talks about the Holy Spirit taking what humans have put in the way of finding God, and making some sort of humor out of it. There is an extraordinary amount of theology books that do not convey emotion.…

This includes spirit and flesh as one, to make one better you also should make the other. God made the entire man and through Christ the entire man is redeemed. Schaeffer also goes on to discuss that the lordship of Christ should involve total culture including creativity. As mentioned previously, man should use the lordship to reveal works of art directed by the Spirit to show a love for God.…

The Light of Christ- In Doctrine and Covenants 84:46 it reads, “And the Spirit giveth light to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit.” A person has the capability of receiving guidance from the Holy Ghost, even when one does not have the gift of the Holy Ghost, because the Spirit “giveth Light” to everyone who is in the world. These verses talk about how Christ is the Light and through a glass (the Spirit) we are able to see the Light that is conveyed to the spiritual man. Edwards goes on to show more biblical proof. He starts by stating that the spiritual man and natural man differ in the ability to see the light that is conveyed. They are different in that the spiritual man has the knowledge of God and the sight of God. Edwards backs this point up with 1 John 3:6, 3 John 11, John 14:19, John 17:3.…

Many people tend to depersonalize the Holy Spirit because it does not sound nearly as relational as Father and Son. However, according to the Nicene Creed, the Spirit does have a relational status because of its eternal relationship with the Father and Son. The Spirit actually proceeds from not only the Father, but from the Son as well and this adds to its relational status. Next, the novel discusses that God is above gender; therefore, it is argued that people need to avoid using masculine terms for God and stop forming images of Him when in fact it is the other way around. Next the book briefly talks about how the Spirit works through people in their lives and how it connects with the physical and religious aspects of humanity.…
