To me, Instagram has transformed into one of the best sources for inspiration. While it is a platform to portray social life, it has also transitioned to be a platform to show off work.
Many people have utilized Instagram as a tool to network and broadcast information.
Sometimes, the best inspiration is curated by the “Sponsored” feeds.
This was the case with Mrs. Eaves, whose name I later found out after some innocent grid-stalking. I came to learn about Gemma O’Brien, a now 30-year-old illustrator, typographer, and lettering artist living in Sydney, Australia. With over 133,000 followers on Instagram, she has developed into an extremely successful type designer. She

It was the first time she hand-painted large scale lettering, which has become a staple for her career now. She also lists her personal side project, The Spew Bag Challenge (http://spewbagchallenge.tumblr.com/ ) as one of her favorite projects to date. It is a clever combination of puns and hand-lettering she does on airplanes during travel.
While her Instagram is a constant source of inspiration, I found her ideas of good design and her design philosophy to be equally as inspirational. To her, good design is as simple as a
“solid idea and well-crafted execution.” Her design philosophy is to “Take your work seriously, not yourself.” The positive and lighthearted mindset – while still being serious enough to create innovative work – is something I find extraordinarily important in a creative field.
After learning about the typeface “Mrs. Eaves” in class, I could not find a correlation between O’Brien’s Instagram name and the typeface, which was designed by Zuzana Licko in
1996. She also doesn’t address it in any of her online interviews, but it is something I might add to my bucket list should I ever get the chance to meet her in real life.
Below are some images of her

After a couple of holiday weeks I am happy to be back with a full post, this time, to present you Janine Machiedo, a Germany based fine art photographer. As a lot of other artists I wrote about (Kristamas Klousch, Elyssa Obscura, Jenn Violetta, ——) she often uses herself as the model for her creations, and if this could be just a matter of convenience - she’s always available (quoting the great Francesca Woodman) it is also probably the sign that the stories she wants to tell are strongly related to her dreams and feelings. Janine has very good skills at using Photoshop in order to shape her photos in ethereal and surreal almost paint-like pictures, and her work has some similarities with Brooke Shaden’s art.…

Throughout much of Edgar Allen Poe’s work, the female is often written in some form of importance one way or another. Whether through symbolism, a clever plot device, or a direct reference to a female character, women are never simply overlooked in the work of Poe. Often times the woman may represent death or perhaps love. A lot of this relates to the reality that is Poe’s life. During his 40 years of life, Poe had suffered nothing but estranged relationships and loss with women in his life.…

In a time when society is more egocentric than ever, people must resist or conform to a form of life that revolves strongly around knowing what everybody is doing all the time through social media platforms. Ms. Ham and Mr. Standage focus on how trends draw people out of their normal social interactions and into a world that seemingly revolves around themselves (We Shall Overshare, Mary Ham 280). Their focus upon the false sense of attention that people get from sharing about themselves shows how the audience in each article should be able to relate to this kind of situation. The world that people live in today is full of self-centered beings that seek only to grab attention for themselves and distancing themselves from their friends and family…
