In the morning nursery today the special helper was Kinga, so when all the children had arrived she collected the board from the door as normal. We then proceeded with the register as normal and helped count as Kinga drew 7 circles. The children had brought in objects for welcome time today beginning with F. Some of the things the children brought in were football, fox teddy, fork and a France flag. I asked the children what they dressed up in for their banquette and if they enjoyed it. They told me they danced and had some delicious food along with a massive castle cake. I was very disappointed that I couldn’t be there. When the afternoon children arrived the special helper for the yellow bumblebee group was Noah. He collected the board from the board as normal and we took the register. There was only 6 children in the afternoon yellow bumblebee group so we helped count as Noah drew the circles on the board. The weather had started to get very grey looking outside so Noah picked the cloud picture and put it on the wall. Karen asked the children if they knew what day it was today and she went round high fiving the children as they said “Thursday”. The afternoon group also brought in things beginning with F for them to place on the show-me table. This group brought in objects such as a fan, a frog teddy and a flower hair clasp. The children put these on the table and then went and played. I went up to the arts and crafts table to help make musical instruments with the children. Songs were also played during the afternoon play time and children were playing with the musical instruments there. We made drums out of cereal boxes and used string to put them around the children’s neck. We also made out maracas from toilet roll tubes and rice. We put paper around one end of the tube and sealed it with an elastic band. We put rice in and did the same on the other side. The children danced around to the music and played with their homemade instruments. After the children tided up Lynne read The Gruffalo to them while I helped my colleagues make snack. The children went and washed their hands as normal, ate snack and then went and brushed their teeth. By now it had started to rain outside so instead of going outside to play the children went into the gym hall. When the children went inside to the gym hall they were

Octavia Butler’s short story, “The Evening and the Morning and the Night” has a fairly long title for being a short story. This story, like most of Butler’s works is one that brings a fictional scenario to life in a grim and dark manner. Octavia Butler is not one to use euphemisms or sensor her work. Her audience is that of an adult who is mature enough to handle the content of her stories. Because of this I thought it would be a good idea to adapt “The Evening and the Morning and the Night” into a short children’s book.…
