Blame was immediately pushed onto the Spanish, but recent research shows that the sinking of the USS Maine was an accident. The research shows that there could have been a spontaneous combustion fire in the coal bunker. The U.S. had supported Cuba’s case and declared that Spain gave Cuba independence. The Yellow Journalism tried to make the Spanish look as bad as possible. When there was revolutions in Cuba the Yellow Journalism said things like the Spanish were running concentration camps. This caused the U.S. to get angry at the Spanish. After the sinking of the USS Maine the Yellow Journalism was very effective at pushing the U.S. into war. The Yellow Journalism made the conclusion that it was the Spanish that attack the Maine. They even made illustrations to show how the Spanish could have done it. Even though this claim show no basis, the U.S. was upset and was being pushed into war. That is why the Yellow Journalism was very important to the war. The Yellow Journalism inflamed the U.S. public opinion which pressure the government to go to war against Spain. Theodore Roosevelt became a
