The Song Of Solomon: Most Controversial Books In The Bible

My Interpretation of The Song of Solomon The Song of Solomon is no doubt one of the most controversial books in the Bible. Many even question why it is included in the Old Testament. This has led to many debates concerning the real meaning behind it. The reason the Song of Solomon is a part of the Old Testament Canon because it is an important aspect of the Bible that shows a part of human nature that is generally viewed as shameful, but validates that love and sex are a part of a healthy marriage in the eyes of God. I believe that the Song of Solomon is because it lets its readers know how love should work in a marriage. Moreover, it sheds a positive light on a woman’s view on love and sex. There are very few instances in the Old Testament …show more content…
The first way is by people who see it as exactly what it is: a healthy, sexual relationship existing in a marriage full of love. People can use it as an example in their own life and marriage. Those that choose to ignore the true message view it as a metaphor for God’s love for His people and can use it to know that God’s love for them is great. However, this book should be used as an example of the way God designed a successful marriage that involves loving your spouse wholeheartedly. Churches should not try to hide this book or steer away from teaching it. It can be a great way to properly teach young people about sex. That is, it should not be rushed, forced, or pre-marital. This does not mean that churches cannot use it as a metaphor for God’s love of His people, but if churches were to use it more often in the proper context, then maybe it will resolve plenty of issues related to the misconduct of …show more content…
This is because it allows for people to be able to interpret it anyway they want since there is no way to know which verses are literal or not. Another interesting characteristic of this book is that it shows love from a viewpoint of both genders. After reading and interpreting the book, I found the highlight of it to be the way it acts as direct evidence that shows that love and sex are not this taboo act that Christianity has twisted it into. This is especially so since this book makes up the Bible just as much as any other book, but churches seem to ignore this one and continue to generalize sex as a sin.
There are a couple of concepts in this book that I do not like. First off, some of the man’s compliments are terrible. For instance, he compares the woman’s hair to a flock of goats. Moreover, the whole book can be viewed as a type of ancient love novel, and it is kind of nauseating.
The Song of Solomon should not be viewed in a negative light. It supplies several messages about how a healthy relationship should work, going one step further to include advice about love and sex. It can be characterized as perplexing, and even unconventional compared to the other books in the Bible, but that does not mean it has any less value. After all, if one truly believes in the Bible, then they have to take into account all of it and not pick and

“Without ever leaving the ground, she could fly” (336). This shows that because Pilate is able to escape reality without abandoning anyone, she is the only one who has truly mastered flight. Flight is unique to Song of Solomon, as it tells a story on its own. Many characters are able to achieve flight throughout the novel, all in different ways, but all for one reason, to escape reality. This adds to a common theme of the novel, a quest for identity, as the characters are trying to escape the life they are forced into in order to discover a better one.…

First Corinthians and Porter, one of the healthiest couples in “Song of Solomon,” are represented differently. They are similar to the sky god Nut and the earth god Geb in ancient egyptian mythology. Geb is generally rendered male, and Nut female. The two gods were in love, and in a constant embrace, this angered their grandfather, the sun god Ra, and he had them separated. Corinthians and Porter fell in love against all odds, “The result was a pair of middle-aged lovers who behaved like teen-agers-afraid to be caught by their parents in a love relationship they were too young for.…

Song of Solomon is a richly textured novel in which Toni Morrison uses poetic language as well as a variety of literary devices to ultimately make her novel unique and with a certain level of depth. The passage above is particularly interesting because it incorporates many of the literary devices that Morrison uses such as metaphors, similes, oxymoron, allusions, and a variety of imageries. The excerpt also reveals Macon Dead’s personality through the other characters and his role in the household. This type of narrative, where the characters are discovered mainly through the other characters, is consistent throughout the whole novel. Ruth's character, for example, was shown to be isolated from the black community and thought of as a wanna-be white women from the appearance of the others and their actions during Mr. Smith’s suicide leap.…
