Analysis Of Goodbye My Lover

James Blunt is a successful English musician and song-writer; his song Goodbye my lover is one of the most recognized song from his 2004 album. It is believed that a song is always a key to the artist story or experience in a certain time in their life. In these of songs, the artist expresses the way they feel or what they are going through. In these song I chose you can feel his pain for not being able to stay with the one he loves. He reminds her of all that they have gone through and all she means to him. With his words one can tell he does not take her for granted and wishes happiness and love; one can also feel his love while letting her go and allowing her to move on with her life.

In the song Goodbye my lover by James Blunt there are so many things that are expressed and transmitted through the lyrics. His love for her is so indescribable that he is letting her go, even when he knows he loved her and would do anything for her. I think it’s a love like that just comes to you from one day to the next and a love that doesn’t happen often too much. When he says “I’d be the father of your child. I 'd spend a lifetime with you” (Blunt, 2004) You feel like he is asking her to stay but they say goodbye. …show more content…
For example, in the lines “So I took what 's mine by eternal right. Took your soul out into the night” (Blunt, 2004) he uses a symbolical expression because it is not humanly possible to take a soul from someone. He also uses possession, because he says that it is his right to take her as if she was of her possession. Another line that caught my attention as well was “Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won” (Blunt, 2004), this line is a metaphor because she was not blinded in reality, but was expressed as in the sense that all she trusted and saw was him and that even if they were to tell her that he was a bad person, she is so in love with him, she wouldn’t have
