Hillary Clinton, Amelia Earhart, Sojourner Truth And Rosa Parks

Acting Minds Hillary Clinton, Amelia Earhart, Sojourner Truth and Rosa Parks. This is just a short list of many great female figures in history. While each of them might have different beliefs and goals, each one of them have something in common. They all made the decision to act with their mind despite what the social norm may be. Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman” speech expresses that woman have as much potential as men to do anything they put their mind too (574-576). Today that sort of tenacity lives on with many people. This is well exampled in Michael Lewis’ “Buy That Little Girl an Ice Cream Cone” when Lewis’ daughter Dixie is shown defending her bigger sister (578-580). While Dixie’s actions do not have the same kind of precedent, it is still worth noting that she did in fact act with her mind. That also means that Lewis’ story illustrates what Truth says very well and confirms that women have as much potential as men and act upon it. For instance the language …show more content…
A notable example of this would be women fighting for the right to vote. They fought for it because they believed that it was there right to vote, and so they made up their mind and fought for which in turn made them win. This is also shown in Lewis’ story with Dixie fighting to protect her sister (578-580). While it’s not physical fighting she still believed that it was wrong for the boys to bully her sister so she verbally attacked them to fight for what she thought was right (578). Like Dixie many more women are fighting for what they think is right. More women are now in the military, which in previous generations was predominantly male. And why do they fight for the military? It’s because they believe in their country and they want to fight to protect it and its ideals.
