The Soil Argument Essay

The Soil Argument After watching the movie and reading the article, I was surprised to find that the basic principles discussed in each were similar. I found that both were a call to attention to raise awareness to what humans have done to the earth, and so both provided possible steps we could take to attempt to repair the damage we have done. They both also compared dirt to the living, and the article used clever comparisons of the human body and the microorganisms inside it to the soil and the microorganisms inside that. In addition, they also both mentioned information about humans and how we are affected by changes in the soil, which have a major impact on our environment, what we eat, etc.
However, I found that the two sources were also different. While they both did include solutions to fix the earth, the types of solutions offered differed greatly. For example, in the movie, the solutions offered are those that both individuals and communities could take up, like the CSA’s or the rooftop gardens. Unfortunately, I don’t think that a lot of people stop and think about the earth as often as they should. In fact, I think the last time I did anything community-based with the soil was in elementary school, which revolved around planting little gardens, composting, and learning to take better care of the earth. I don’t know how many times I had the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ repeated at, but I definitely don’t think I’ll ever forget it. In all honestly, I think that any step is a step forward, and learning more information about the earth and how we can help it is important. It should be something that is focused on more, especially when we are younger so that we can be knowledgeable and continue to do it as
