He and his wife, Jennie, had ten children, but one was away in the army during the event that took place on the early morning of December 25th, 1945. The family lived in a small town called Fayetteville in West Virginia, which also had a large community of other Italian immigrants. George was not shy about this opinions and spoke out on a lot of issues he believe were wrong. They were a very respected family and did not cause any trouble. Death by fire and a kidnapping are two theories surrounding the case of the Sodder children. …show more content…
For example, one theory is that the five children tragically died in the fire, and another one is that they could have gotten kidnapped. To begin, in the early morning of December 25th, 1945 Jennie Sodder, the mother, recalls a “heavy object” hitting the roof (Newton 361). Then, thirty minutes later she smelt smoke and called for the family to exit the house (Newton 361). However, only four of the nine children escape, but when George goes to retrieve his ladder to try and save the rest, it was missing from its usual spot (Abbott). Although, the fire department was notified at around one in the morning, they did not get to the Sodders home until eight in the morning (“Profile: Mystery of missing”). As the day goes on, more and more ominous clues begin to come
