The Soc's The Outsiders

In my essay on, “The Outsiders”, I will be arguing that the Soc’s and the greasers are not very different if you compare the two of them. This is important because people are always saying that the Soc’s started something or that the Greaser’s started something but in the end they are just two rival gangs that both do bad things in their own ways. I would say that I would not be classified as a Greaser or a Soc. In my opinion, the Greasers and the Socs are not very different; they both commit crimes, they are both loyal to their friends, and they both start fights. The Greaser’s and the Soc’s are both criminals and they both commit crimes in different ways. An example of the Soc’s being criminals is that they jump the greasers for no reason other than the fact that they have the power to do it. An example of this is when the rumble happens in the book. Both the Soc’s and the Greaser’s have their reasonings for starting the rumble. The Greaser’s were mad because the Soc’s had pretty much been responsible for Johnny’s death and the Soc’s were mad that the Greaser’s called Bob’s death. In the book Hinton (1995) says, “We gotta win that fight tonight, Dally said. His voice was hard. We gotta get even with the Soc’s. For Johnny” (p. 125). In the book Hinton (1995) says, “Then I saw Johnny. He was sitting next to me, one elbow on his knee and staring straight ahead. He was a strange greenish-white and his eyes were huger than I’d ever see them. “I killed him” he said slowly, “I killed that boy” (p. 56). Both gangs also say rude things to each other for no reason and it can cause smaller fights for example when Dally is making fun of the way that the Soc’s faces are shaped before the rumble. Not as big as rumbles but it is still a fight no matter what way you look at
