The gang and dally meets at a vacant lot to help him escape. Though, Dally pulls out a gun as the cops start to shoot him. Ponyboy is sick to his stomach when Dally also dies. He then has to attend court for the surrounding events. Ponyboy and Darry then realize that all of the conflict is really affecting Sodapop. They then agree to stop feuding with each other and their rivalries as they realize it is pointless.
Ponyboy returns to school the following Monday. He then needs a writing prompt for his English semester theme. He decides to write about life lessons he learned that recently applied to him and friends. He did this to let his classmates know that social class conflict is not worth it. The author’s purpose was to show how hard it was to be a lower class in gangs and how hard peoples’ lives are. The author expressed her feelings through the main characters by the characters that are in the lower class in the novel. The reader wouldn’t be knowledgeable if we never was presented how difficult it is for most people, and how lucky we are to have a life like
