Case Study: Sonia Ruiz

1) A seventy-one-year-old Latina name Ms. Sonia Ruiz moved to United States for six years from Ecuador. She lived with her daughter name Luz and her three children who is Ms. Ruiz’s grandchildren, ages twelve, thirteen, and sixteen. She doesn’t have high school diploma and has no income of her own. She has been doing household chores all day and stays at home to take care of her grandchildren while Luz works in a factory and her husband works odd jobs. Ms. Ruiz also taking English classes at a neighborhood center to improves her English skilled. For the past few weeks, she has experiencing variety of body aches and pains that including nervios and headaches, she also has little interest eating or doing things. Micro-level are focuses on the individual and his or her most intimate interactions, such as exchanges between husband and wife, parent and child, close friends, and family members. Ms. Ruiz is a single woman who moved to United States for six years from Ecuador and live with her daughter because she don’t have no income and high school diploma to live on her own. Living in a society that has historically repeating between acceptance and rejection of immigrants from Latin America may have resulted in a client’s little or lack of retirement income, health benefits, and access to formal services. Mezzo-level are between the micro and macro level; usually use by group therapy counseling, self-help groups, or neighborhood community associations. Ms. Ruiz lived with her daughter’s family and have three grandchildren to take responsibility and have household chores around the house and she went to English classes at a neighborhood center. Some older Latinos can and do rely on the family for support and care, for others this may not be an option. Last, on Macro-level it may involve work with an organization, a community, a state, or even a society as a whole. Ruiz tends to minimize her strengths, she exhibits loyalty to her family by doing a lot of sacrifices her time to do the household chores and taking care of her grandchildren. She also participating with English classes at the neighborhood center to improve her English grammars and also attends to church services. She knows how to respect the family issues by avoiding the situation between Luz and her husband fighting over the money. She is also trustworthy to her family because of her actions toward them. When faced with interpersonal conflict, she is inclined to withdraw and wanting to come back to her own
