The most social privilege in the United States is for straight, white, male Christians. Those who are of the LGBT community are looked upon as strange, different and making the wrong decision. Marriages between two men or two women are looked down upon as less than that of one man and one women. In the workforce, men are given the highest positions of management and respect, even if they have less experience or credentials. Female employees are given salaries less than those of their male counterparts for the same work. Christians are seen as the majority and norm in the United States. This article talks about “the payoff from both racial and gender biases” I receive in my daily life as a white male. The most startling statement that I read was “Having a white-sounding name was as beneficial as eight years’ work experience.” This seems very unfair to me, even as a white male. Those who are the most qualified or experienced should obtain the position, regardless of their race. What was equally shocking, was that the female candidates were suggested salaries $4,000 lower than the male candidates. I believe that employees who do the same work should be paid the same, regardless of gender. The second media site that resonated most with me was “Young People Want Equality but Struggle to Discuss Bias,” by Gene Demby. The articles focuses on young people’s opinions on bias regarding race, and to a lesser extent, regarding sexual orientation. The study described in the article said that 65 percent of colored people felt whites had more had more opportunities than people from racial minority groups, while only 39% of whites said the same. This was surprising to me, because the vast difference between those two numbers shows how much disparity actually exists between white Americans and minorities in the United
