How to Improve Your Tone
The Snippet
Singers need to have the best tone possible. Fortunately, there are several techniques people can use to improve their tone. These techniques work for novice and advanced singers alike. They are easy to implement and can help people get a better tone right away.
The Details
Spend time warming up. You will have a hard time having a good tone if your voice isn’t warmed up. Spend ten to twenty minutes warming up before you sing so your vocal cords will be ready to produce the best tone possible.
Practice breathing. If your shoulders and chest move when you breathe, it will be impossible for you to have a nice tone. Practice keeping your chest and shoulders still and moving your stomach when you inhale and

This will allow the air to flow through to your vocal cords. Even a slight upward or downward tilt can hurt your tone a great deal, so pay special attention to this.
Have good posture. Good posture allows the air to flow through your diaphragm properly. That will help your tone, so be sure to stand up straight when you sing.
Drink lots of water. Water can actually help your singing voice, but alcohol and thick drinks like milk can hurt it. With that in mind, drink a glass of water before you sing and pass up the milk, wine and beer.
Embrace your voice. If you try to mimic someone else, you will hurt your natural tone. Go with your natural voice in order to have the best tone possible.
Open your mouth wide enough. You should be able to fit two fingers between your teeth when you sing. If you can’t, you need to open your mouth wider so you can get a better tone.
Relax your tongue. Keep your tongue relaxed so it won’t block your airflow and hurt your tone. If it is tense or caught up in your throat, you will have a poor tone.
Sing softly at first. It will be easier for you to relax your throat and breathe correctly if you start off singing softly. You can increase the volume over time as you get more comfortable

The saxophone embouchure is similar to the clarinet embouchure in terms of both being single-lip embouchures. The saxophone embouchure can be formed in the following way: the corners of the mouth must be pulled in towards one another in such a way that the lower lip forms a cushion between the lower lip and the teeth. The reed must then rest on this cushion with the upper teeth on the mouthpiece. Do not bite into the lower lip with the lower teeth as this can become very painful after hours of playing. The position of the upper and lower teeth should be in direct alignment with each other, i.e. without an over- or under-bite.…

One actor that showed good head voice vs. chest voice was Dakota. Dakota played Fantine in Les Miserables. In the scene right before Docks Part 2, Dakota sings a line that says, “you let your foreman send me away…” As she sings this, she hits very high notes and not once do you hear breathiness or squeaky, airy notes. She sings with power without belting by singing in her head voice. I couldn’t not tell when she switched into her chest voice.…

    Creaky Voice Summary

By this time, the person reading this may very well be sick of seeing the words “creaky voice,” but it really is interesting how a slight variation in speech can impact individuals so severely. Both Yuasa and Slobe’s study reveals the underlying sexism in the American society; they both revealed that language is not equal between the sexes. When men employ creaky voice, they are identified as more dominant and important, but when women use it they are seen as superficial and unintelligent. I agree with Slobe in that media influences are partly to blame for the negative reputation around women’s usage of creaky voice, but I also believe that it is inefficient and unfair to judge a person solely on their quality of voice. The notion that an individual must alter their voice to the correct standard and quality based on their gender is absurd.…

They have to maintain good general health, get sufficient good quality rest, and enough hydration, vital in keeping any singers voice in good order, something clearly not the case with the tragic Whitney Houston, though even with good health habits, vocal cords do stiffen as singers get older. The more vocal membranes are used, the more fibrous and stiff they become, resulting in diminished vibration amplitude, meaning that the singer has to use more air pressure, from the lungs. to cause vocal cords to vibrate, usually the result of decades of voice use, and lots of singers develop vocal cord growths or nodules that often bleed and can scar, making the voice more hoarse in quality. Surgeries to remove such growths are much more common these days, but especially among opera singers, because of substantial demands on their voices.…
