Todays 21st century is vastly changing, especially the youth is growing up way too quickly. The primary theme of “The Sniper,” is that in order to save lives, people do what is necessary. Society also needs to take into account that our technology is always changing, becoming improved and more dangerous. When it comes to fighting, someone will not always have the time to think things through so that is why you need to be able to reason fast. O’Flaherty uses the setting, the plot summary and allegory to prove that someone does what they have to, to survive. The background against which the action of a work takes place is called the setting. The setting in “The Sniper,” is the Irish Civil War, going on in Dublin, Ireland. During any war, lots of men become wounded or killed. Since, a war going on it supports the theme because our country has soldiers fighting to protect.
