One interpretive and objectifying literary device that may be acquired from the poem, is symbolism. In the poem, the character is communicating towards the reader through the usage of such device. The device of symbolism depicts objects as having an infinite amounts of representations; however, some of these representations may seem dull. At first it may appear but later on, with further examination the truth may be uncovered. For example, “the skin of an animal,” is used to enforce the ongoing tower of insults and the objectifying of the second character. The first character, the woman, depicts him as a thief. She could have just said that she was trying to get away as soon as possible from him, but she didn’t because it may have seemed like a simple description. The author gives her a hateful mind and it cooperates well with the idea of both characters. With such device the character is allowed to look worthy and successful. For this reason the phrase is written different, to make her feel more like a successful victim. Another device that can be identified is allusion. This device describes the characters and compares them to basic ideologies. It is understood by now that her description is biased towards herself to seem successful and self-worthing of it. The character says “He is black, I am white.” The ideologies and comparisons that are achieved from this is the good and the bad. Obviously being her the good and the man the bad.
