Introduction
The skill of note taking is very important for students to possess, in order to learn as much as they can. Effective note taking consists of three stages. First, you set the stage for taking notes. Second, you record your information. Lastly, you review your notes at a later time (Ellis, 2014). There are many ways you can take your notes, ranging from pen and paper to laptops and other technology. Notes are a great way to prepare for tests, refresh your memory, and establish a personal connection to the learned material. If taken in ways that best fit you, they can help you on your journey to being a successful student.

I personally disagree. I have a wide variety of note taking styles, and know what works for me. Outlining is my preferred way to take notes in subjects like English or writing and composition classes. It makes sense to have main topics and elaborate underneath them. It keeps the information in chronological order and all together with related material. In math related classes, I like to use plenty of examples and explanations. Writing the problem, and step by step solutions is helpful to guide me through other problems in the future! In science based subjects, I use lots of note cards. I write the topic on the solid white side, and information about it on the lined side. I use the cards to quiz myself and memorize the information. I really enjoy highlighters and sticky notes. I use different colors of highlighter to keep information together when I find it relates. It helps when writing papers from textbooks, because it gives you a guideline of what it will say. You can just follow along and if you get stuck, just move on to the next highlighted phrase. Sticky notes are wonderful if you have a question and would like to go back to it. When you have your answer, you just have to peel it off and toss it in the trash! They are also convenient to have to take little impromptu notes. You can just save them and add them to your original note paper. I 'm not too fond of using technology to take notes. I enjoy pen

In the article “Is a Picture worth a Thousand notes” by Jessica Higgins, she was curious to why most of her students choose other form of note taking rather than the traditional handwriting methods. In regards to my writing process, there have been some central strategies that I have developed over time and some strategies that I have had for as long as I can remember. For example, one skill that I have developed from high school has been to annotate, mark up, and take notes throughout my readings. I found that taking notes really helps me, not only to remember what I read but to go back and be able to point out something in my reading easily. In addition, it helped me understand the readings better.…

The reading for this week provided us with great strategies to implement into our classrooms that are research based to help our students be successful academically. These four key tools to success are notetaking, summarizing, homework, and practicing. In Ceri Dean’s chapter 6, he discusses that teachers should teach these at the beginning of each school year to give students concrete ways for student success (Dean,2012, pp.80-98). I found several “golden nuggets” in this reading that I will implement in the new school year.…

The comprehensive job of taking notes may not be appealing to all, but it is so worth it…

When writing a paper or essay in the past I have used the outlining technique and have found that at the end I had scribbled all over a paper and had to write everything again on another piece of paper. Since being in this class I have become fond of the visual organizers. Kristen has done a great job with them on her videos and section 5.01 in the eLearning solidified my liking to visual organizers. I use notecards that have my introduction, main points, supporting facts, opposing points, refuting points and conclusion. Once I have all my ideas written down I can lay them out and move them around which allows for my brain to be stimulated and produce the best work possible.…

Were you taught cursive writing when you were in PreSchool? Back when I was in PreK, they taught us how to write in cursive. Although that was only about 10 years ago, they have taken cursive writing out of the learning recommendations. I, personally, liked the idea of cursive writing, but the way technology has changed, it is no longer need. It is helpful, but it is also unnecessary to how things are scored in schools today.…

Replacing cursive writting with typing and technology will do more harm than good to the student. I typing believe it will minimize their ablity to process and retain information, and is therfore essential to one's learning development. As a student myself, writing my notes by hand helps me process the information as well as remembering it as I write it down.…

For some reason I’ve always hated the idea of taking notes. It’s like every time I heard the teacher mention anything about notes, my heart sank to the pit my stomach. The repetitiveness always pissed me off. My notes were always subpar because of this.
