Journalist Elizabeth Kolbert writes about her travels around the globe and her continual research focused on the possibility of the next mass extinction being closer than we thought. Kelton announces in her prologue, we are currently undergoing the sixth wave of mass extinction, a devastation that altered the course of history every time it has occurred before. As she conducts her travels around the world to where species are quickly disappearing, Kolbert admits she is not only looking for a solution to the problem, but knowledge on the topic as well. With the time bomb slowly ticking away, one might allude this ‘mass extinction’ upcoming to the end of the cretaceous period when the dinosaurs took their last breath before being extinguished by meteors. This similarity is the world’s most recognizable extinction, even though there were four more throughout history.

And lastly, if this problem is recognized, could today’s technology and research realistically heal it? Overall, I enjoyed reading ‘The Sixth Extinction’, as it brought problems I didn’t know about to light and made me question humanities’ actions. I feel this revelation reading would help our world realize what is happening to the earth before we extinguish our chances of saving the planet we live
