The Siren by Kiera Cass is a romance novel with forbidden love and mystical happenings. This novella stars Kahlen, a young girl, who was rescued from her terrible fate of drowning in a shipwreck by serving the Ocean for a century instead. She was forced to use her voice to lure people into the water and drown them, thus “feeding” the Ocean. After a hundred years, she would be given her humanity back and forget she was ever siren.There are two rules to being a siren: you can only use your voice for “feedings” and relationships with humans are prohibited. After successfully serving the Ocean for eighty years, Kahlen meets Akinli, a compassionate and sensitive boy who sees Kahlen not only for her beauty (part of being a siren), but for what’s deep inside of her. Now Kahlen can either choose to be with her soul mate and face the wrath of the Ocean or have her heart broken and keep her relationship with the Ocean. I love romance books, and I really enjoyed this book. To be honest, I found the romance part really unrealistic because now in 2016, it’s almost impossible to connect with someone as quick as Kahlen. It had an interesting plot with lots of passionate scenes. I would give it a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. It was very well written and transitioned nicely from one problem to another, but the author dragged it out much more than necessary by adding too many complications. This book would be perfect for love lovers and people who are interested in mystical beings or fantasy. Overall, it was an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone. For those who aren’t into romance, try venturing outside of your comfort zone with this book and it’ll open your eyes and
