As the play progresses, Macbeth’s admirable qualities start to disappear as his evil qualities become more developed. Being overly confident eventually leads to Macbeth’s self-destruction. Macbeth first became overconfident after he received the prophecies from the apparitions conjured by the witches. In reply, Macbeth confidently expressed, “Rebellious dead, rise never till the wood / Of Birnam rise, and our high-placed Macbeth / Shall live the lease of nature, pay his breath / To time and mortal custom” (4.1.102-105). Macbeth learned from the witches that he will reign for his entire life span and will never be fought off his throne until Birnam Wood marches to Dunsinane Hill. Despite the confirmation of the apparitions, Macbeth felt that it was necessary to kill Macduff. After Macbeth learned that Macduff was not in his castle, Macbeth murdered the Macduffs as a replacement for Macduff’s absence. After the Macduffs were killed, Macbeth’s ruthless ambition drove him to continue murdering one after another. Macbeth’s overconfident character drove him to believe that he was not one to be beaten and would end up victorious. Being overly confident backfired on Macbeth because mistrust was what the people of Scotland felt for Macbeth and began to turn against him. Macbeth refused to kneel on the ground to deliver himself to Malcolm or be laughed at by the town’s people. Even though Macbeth realized that he was going to end up dead by the hands of Macduff, Macbeth did not surrender. Macbeth challenged Macduff to battle until one of them died. Macbeth’s brave display of conviction and honorable death make readers remember the old Macbeth in the beginning of the play. Likewise, Justin Bieber also regained some dignity in himself. Bieber admitted to his reckless behavior in the past year, "How I 've been acting in the last year, year and a half, is not who I am. I was pretending”. Justin Bieber had the courage to confess his unacceptable actions in the past year. Like Macbeth, Justin Bieber did not act like a coward, and instead, both Macbeth and Justin Bieber should be commended for their
