Comparing the Enlightenment Revolutions with the Egyptian Revolution, there are many more similarities in ideas between the two historical events than differences. However, these similar ideas led to two drastically different outcomes. The Enlightenment Revolutions, such as the American Revolution, were inspired by the ideas of the Enlightenment Era: reasoning, equality, individualism, and skepticism. In a similar aspect, the Egyptian Revolution emphasized the sovereignty of the people, equality in government, and the rights of the people.

While they both were caused by similar reasons and events, their outcomes were extremely different. While the Americans succeeded in overthrowing the monarchy and forming an independent democracy, the Egyptians reformed government crumbled to pieces quickly. The Egyptians initially did succeed in creating an equal democracy, but political and economic conflicts broke the government apart. Corrupted political leaders were allowed to rise to power again and drive the nation into a deeper pit, economically, politically, and socially. The nation’s previous debt grew much larger due to a halt in foreign investments and tourism. Politically, the corrupt leaders were able to break down the equal government system and offset the balance of power. A corrupted government often leads to a corrupted society. Egypt’s political uncertainty held back its economy. Its increasing levels of social inequality caused the destruction of many people’s lives and spread poverty throughout the country.
