One of the serious academic offences is plagiarism since plagiarism leads to breach of academic honesty. Plagiarism is concept that infringe the copyright. There are various ideas, concepts, and works related the copyright. If people want to reference another’s ideas, concepts, and works they should refer a citation where comes from. However, according to Parker, Lenhart, and Moore(2011), over half of college presidents announce plagiarist students have increased over a past decade. According to 2015-2016 Academic Policy (Seneca college, 2016), when students plagiarize, the professor will meet with that pupil and listen to student’s explanation. If the professor does not find reasons, a promotion committee will set on and review the circumstances of the incident. In contrast, Humber’s process is more organized since they have academic misconduct sanctions. According to Admission Requirements and Academic Regulations (Humber college, 2016), the section of 17.4 explain Humber’s sanctions. In particular, if students commit a serious academic offence, they will receive an academic misconduct letter. That letter clarify the outcomes of the review. They point out specific condition such as rescinding of Humber-funded scholarships or bursaries and making an application for readmission. Seneca states three steps of penalties. If students commit first offence, they get a grade of “0” on their works and second offence penalty also gives an “F” in the course to students. In addition, if student commit academic offences more than three times, they will withdraw from Seneca college for two years. On the other hand, Humber’s penalties is harsher than Seneca. If Humber students commit academic offences they get a grade of “0” on their work or course but also are recorded by the Office of the Register.
