Speeding through the process could result in a terrible mistake. It took Johnny quite some time to make a mold for the sugar basin, and there had to be perfect timing for the basin handles to turn out just right. It was a dangerous task. Dealing with all of the important tasks to complete the basin perfectly, it was very risky to do alone. Johnny needed Mr. Lapham. Johnny was still learning and without his master, he could make a mistake or rush through the process too fast. Time was needed and Johnny didn’t have much time at all.
