Out of the silent Planet is the first novel in Lewis’ overlooked space trilogy, it is a small book yet has a lot of information in it. In the opening work, we’re introduces to Dr. Ransom who falls into the clutches of two nefarious scientists, Weston and Devine. These men have constructed a space vessel, and intend to travel to the planet Malacandra, to hand Ransom over to the aliens who live there. After they land Ransom flees his human captors, but crosses paths with the same aliens he fears are out to do him harm, but only quite the opposite is true. Ransom ends up assimilating into the alien culture and finds himself in route to meet Oyarsa, an omnipotent being who has been seeking Ransom all along. I like this book because it is a small book yet reads like a book twice its size. I really like those kinds of books because, you never realise how much action, excitement, and thrill can come from such a small book. The plot is fairly basic, though that’s certainly not meant as an insult, because it work so well that way. Ransom is transported by evil and sorely misguided men to another planet, assuming Ransom will die, in return, can make a better name for themselves. But, things aren’t what seem and its Ransom, who turns out discovering what life in the universe truly means. I love in the story how they have you thinking that the evil men get the better name they wanted, but they supersize you by having Ransom get a better name for himself.

Character wise, I wouldn’t call any of these figures in depth, but they’re not stock characters either. Again, sometimes the qualities the character is supposed to represent we just assume their development. My most favorite quote from the character Ransom is “We do not truly see light, we only see slower things lit by it.” That shows me what kind of character Ransom

The creation of a hero is only decided through the actions that the character takes. Sophocles’ Creon and Homer’s Telemachus are clearly not worthy of the title “hero”, but they are forced into this hero’s journey so that they can realize what their effect has on others that surround them. It can not be known for sure if either one has completed the hero’s journey because in order to see that change, we would need to see a continuation of the story, however by observing their personalities, it is made aware that there is a transcendence back to reality and back into a hero’s mindset.…

In the book A Good and Happy Child, Justin Evans uses the idea of a demonic presence to suggest the idea that there are sources of evil in everyday life, for example, the significant theme of technology in Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. Both authors present pernicious issues that cause obsession, emotional turmoil, and strained relationships in the lives of the protagonists. Also, each book introduces the malevolent subjects as things that are supposed to be helpful to the characters involved, and after the struggling with the harmful obstacles, both main characters find a solution in similar ways. First, Evans and Sloan bring the evil into the main character’s life without him realizing that it is there for wicked reasons.…
