In every case, you should be honest and stand up for what’s right, fortunately Miller is able to display this concept in his story, especially through John Proctor. Many analysts say Procture is the embodiment of integrity. In the play, he stands up for greater good, in which he defends the innocent. It’s like the Crucible’s own batman. The point is, if he did not stand up for those townsfolk they would’ve looked death right in the face, but instead he eventually took it upon himself and sacrificed himself so that those many could live, and proved the court and their ignorance wrong. There is also the case of always telling the truth. For instance, when John Proctor risked everything, a unveiled the affair between him and Abigail, he asked nothing but the truth from his wife to tell the court that it what he said was true. In the end, she slightly lied to save Proctors reputation but it was what brought him to his downfall. I know all she had was good intentions, thinking that covering up the worst would bring the best. In hindsight, it did not work out so well and Proctor had to pay the price. The importance of the need of integrity and honesty is clearly shown in Miller’s masterpiece and makes it utmost important that high school student should study the
