Looking on a broad spectrum I believe that Anthem is significant within our world today. In the United States and other individualist countries, we embrace our differences among one another and value people’s creativity and intelligence. Equality in Ayn Rand’s novel, Anthem, excludes himself from his collectivist society in order to evaluate his own beliefs and needs. In collectivist societies, such as the one Ayn Rand depicts, the well-being of the group over an individual’s desires are emphasized.
