The shock and horror of the assassination of John F. Kennedy will stand as one of the more tragic events of the time. While Kennedy was traveling through Dallas in the car, he had no protection. The motorcade was completely open and accessible. Today, presidential cars are equipped with a glass bulletproof shield and new high-tech add-ins. It is known that President Obama 's car called the "beast", is a tank shaped like a limo which has its own oxygen supply and any necessary supplies to carry through with a blood transfusion. Along with this, the vehicle is known to be able to withstand any biological or chemical attack and is enclosed with foam so it will not explode. If Kennedy would have had a bulletproof shield around the motorcade, the chance of him getting killed would have been much slimmer. Another major policy that changed because of the Kennedy assassination was the banning of the 'presidential stroll '. Before the assassination, presidents were allowed to take unplanned trips and walks anywhere they wanted without any security. Because of Kennedy, this was changed completely. Presidents from then on were required to plan out every trip and always have a bodyguard by their side. Along with this, the Secret Service agents working the day of the assassination state that there was nothing they could have done to help Kennedy after the shots were fired. They were in a completely different motorcade car with no immediate access to the President. Even if the Secret Service agents had been immediately accessible to Kennedy at the time of the assassination, very few of them had any first aid training which would make it almost impossible to make provide significant help to Kennedy. Although current Presidents do occasionally step outside of their cars for brief moments it is known in the Secret Service to be an extremely rare and tense moment where "collective blood pressure spikes".
