The hood was as dark as a funeral scarf,
I kept on hoping that they would distinguish me, that they would stop the hanging and free me.
I got to know that there was no hope, when the countdown began.

“Pull the lever”, said the sheriff, to the hangman, after hearing these words
I shut my eyes, as they were raining tears
Three-Two-One. Boom! The trap door opened and I fell
I struggled for oxygen. I thought it was too late. The coroner pronounced me dead

My body hung there like a piece of cloth for 5 minutes – I was alive my heart was beating, but very faintly.
“Call the nurses and tell them to take the corpse to the morgue”, said the sheriff. A couple hours

As a fifty-four year old senior, there have been many times that I have been reminded of my age, none so glaring as when I was asked to condense those years into 3 paragraphs. I was born on October 12th, 1962, right between the Bay of Pigs incident and President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. I was born on Hamilton Air Force Base in California, a place which no longer exists. I wonder how many people can appreciate that. Over the years I have heard people say, you can’t go home, or it’s not like you remember.…

Today I interviewed a man by the name of Johnny Christian. He just recently earned the title of Bryan County Sheriff so I knew he had to be full of good ideas. I started by asking him all the questions in the list in order and then a couple of my own. I learned that he has been friends with my dad since they were kids and also grew up in the same town I live in now. He went to the same high school as me and had no intentions of becoming a police officer as a college student.…

I have a confession to make, I enjoy the practice of Criminal Defense. As a criminal defense attorney, I represent those charged with a crime, whether it's traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanor or felony. As per the explanation I have heard from many people, I defend the 'scum of the earth.' Since deciding this was my area of practice as an attorney, I have heard from friends, family and even total strangers that my chosen profession is 'wrong,' 'despicable,' I've even been told what I do is "what's wrong with America. " I try to have a legitimate discussion with these individuals to explain my decision to practice criminal defense.…

No one understands what goes on in a courthouse until they step into one. I enjoyed every aspect of this semester because I was exposed to so much more than the judge/justice making decisions and punishing people for their wrongful doings. From walking into security to being escorted out at the end of the day it was all an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to shadow Clerks, Court Reporters and even a CSO at the Durham Courthouse. I was skeptical about the entire experience because I have only sat in the body of the court and not behind the stand.…

Jet black hair fell over his stern ice blue eyes. He was wearing black jeans with a white shirt and a black zip up jacket.…
